Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 9:30 PM-12:30 AM Showtime. Mike Olmos Presents The Sessions .. Mike is a such a great trumpet player. He leads his all star Sessions for a great night of jazz.. N/C

Pier 23 Pier 23 The Embarcadero, San Francisco 5:00 PM-8:00 PM Showtime Frederick Hodges is back at Pier 23. Hodges is a master technician of stride piano. If you love ragtime, stride piano, and novelty numbers of the teens, 1920s and 30s, then do not miss this rare performance. N/C

Mr.Tipples 39 Fell Street, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Slims 333 11th Street San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime Morbid Angel is one of true pioneers of death metal. Hailing from Florida, they have been perfecting the fine art of extreme music for over thirty years. Morbid Angel continues to inspire multitudes of musicians of various styles, as well as many artists of various mediums. This should be a memorable show. Highly recommended!!! $35 Cover Charge

Great American Music Hall 859 O’Farrell St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. IAMX is the solo musical project of Chris Corner, formerly of the band Sneaker Pimps. The music spans multiple genres from electronic rock and dance music to burlesque-influenced songs and emotional ballads. $21 Cover Charge.

Tuesday May 8th

Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime Vibrason.. I saw this band recently. They are another great band out of the Bay Area. Very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. $10 Cover Charge

Pier 23 Pier 23 The Embarcadero, San Francisco 5:00 PM-8:00 PM Showtime.. Virginia Tichenor Ragtime Band is a great traditional jazz band. I especially love the band’s arrangements of Scott Joplin and WC Handy music. Highly recommended!!! No Cover Charge

Verdi Club 2424 Mariposa St, San Francisco Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! $10 Cover Charge..

Ashkenaz 1317 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley 8:00 PM-11:00 PM Showtime.. Aux Cajunals play kick-ass Cajun dance music like it was played at celebrations in southwest Louisiana 100 years ago. This grreat ensemble’s focus is on old-time acoustic sounds that can be heard in the earliest Cajun recordings of the 1920s. In addition to all of the Cajun and Creole standards, their repertoire includes many unusual songs and tunes learned from rare 78s, field recordings, and directly from master musicians. Highly recommended!!! $15 Cover Charge..

The Regency Ballroom 1290 Sutter St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime.. Joey Bada$$ has been a staple in the hip-hop industry for maintaining an authentic, unique and versatile sound. Whereas other rappers may take less risks with formulaic projects, Joey never shies away from keeping his music raw and original. He will have the dance floor rockin’. $28 Cover Charge..

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:00 PM & 9:30 PM Showtimes.. Howell Devine is my favorite Bay Area blues band. They will have the house rockin’.. $20 Cover Charge

Le Colonial 20 Cosmo Pl, San Francisco 8:00 PM-11:00 PM Showtime. Cosmo Alleycats is one of my favorite Bay Are jazz ensembles. The Alleycats are so good and so much fun and one of the better jazz bands in the Bay Area. Highly recommended. N/C

Revolution Cafe 3248 22nd St, San Francisco 8:300 PM-11:30 PM.. If you have never heard The Americano Social Club you are missing one of the most eclectic ensembles in the Bay Area. I really like the mix of pop, jazz , folk, rock, the music of Brazil and the Europe cafe scene. They even on occasion will play classical and opera. The last time I saw them they performed a piece from Carmen. They are really good and entertaining. Highly recommended!!! N/C

Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. Rivers Cuomo best known as the lead singer, lead guitarist, and principal songwriter of the alternative rock band Weezer, is performing solo promoting his new music. $35 Cover Charge..

The Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime.. Molsky’s Mountain Drifters is a cross-generational band that brings a fresh approach to old-time music. Virtuoso multi instrumentalist Bruce Molsky’s new “power trio” includes musicians Allison deGroot on banjo and Stash Wyslouch on guitar. This should be a great show!!! $24 Cover Charge..

Bing Concert Hall 327 Lasuen St, Stanford, CA 7:30 PM Showtime.. Arturo O’Farrell Afro Latin Orchestra is one of the best jazz orchestras in existence, a powerhouse outfit whose precise section work is enhanced by thrilling soloists. Get ready for some fun! $15 – $80 Cover Charge…

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:30 PM & 9:30 PM Showtimes The Daniel Castro Band is truly a force to be reckoned with. Daniel is one of the greatest blues guitarists to come bursting out of the highly competitive West Coast scene. To the classic music of B.B. King, Albert King, and Albert Collins, Castro’s passion warms your soul while his deep groove kicks your butt on fine, fresh originals and well chosen covers. Highly recommended!!! $20 Cover Charge

Brick & Mortar Music Hall 1710 Mission St, San Francisco 10:30 PM Showtime.. Seff Tha Gaffa, the influential San Francisco rap veteran that has been on the scene since the early 90’s will be rockin’ the house. Should be a fun night.. $25 Cover Charge

Slims 333 11th St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. The Canadian indie rock band Born Ruffians known for their energetic live performances will be rockin the house at Slims. Should be a good show.. $18 Cover Charge

The Masonic 1111 California St, San Francisco 7:30 PM Showtime..English singer/songwriter and former lead singer of Oasis Liam Gallagher teams with English singer/songwriter Richard Ashcroft for what should be a great night of music. Highly recommended!!! $20-$75 Cover Charge

SF Jazz 201 Franklin St, San Francisco 7:30 PM Showtime… John Pizzarelli is one of the prime interpreters of the Great American Songbook. Son of swing guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli, the younger Pizzarelli began on guitar at age six, performing with the likes of Benny Goodman and Les Paul by his teens. Over a career that has included sharing the stage with Frank Sinatra and starring in the 1997 Johnny Mercer tribute Dream on Broadway, Pizarrelli has maintained a inimitable style that combines a classic crooner’s warmly intimate approach with a distinctive instrumental flair and a master’s touch on the guitar. Sweetwater Music Hall 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley 8:00 PM Showtime..Sallie Ford, the indie rocker hailing from Portland, will be performing her blend of rockabilly, raw soul and 1950s rock-and-roll’ Ford has a rare quality of somehow combining fun with emotional and artistic integrity. Highly recommended!! $18 Cover Charge

The Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 7:00 PM Showtime.. Jazz and blues singer-songwriter Madeline Peyroux is beginning a four night stint at the Freight. Her repertoire spans jazz standards in English and French, American country classics, funk, blues and her original songs. This is a rare opportunity to see just a wonderful talent. Friday May 11th

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:30 PM & 10:00 PM Showtimes.. Earl Thomas is recognized as one of the top blues artists in the world. The twice Grammy nominated Thomas has seen his songs covered by icons Etta James, Solomon Burke, and Sir Tom Jones. The Best Of Blues calls him “the most important blues voice of his generation”. Tin Cup Serenade is one of the Bay Area’s most exceptional old time jazz band deeply rooted in the blues ragtime, New Orleans jazz, western swing with a little mariachi and calypso thrown in. I really love this band. Highly recommended!! N/C

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 10 PM-1 AM Showtime… Mitch Polzak is a master guitarist and he and The Royal Deuces has been one of the premier Rockabilly bands since staring in 1999. I am a huge fan. Highly recommended!! N/C

Hemlock Tavern 1131 Polk St, San Francisco 8:30 PM-11:55 PM Showtime..The Bye Bye Blackbirds headline a good night of music. This five piece from Oakland, plays a blend of country and roots influences, classic 60’s guitar pop, 70’s power pop, contemporary indie rock and the college radio heroes of the 1980’s. Indie bands THUNDEREGG and Seadramas fill out the show..$10 Cover Charge..

Celebrate Mothers Day with Lavay Smith & Her 8 Piece Little Band ..Lavay is the reigning Queen Of Classic Jazz & Blues in the authentic style of the 1940’s and 1950’s. She will be performing with her 8 piece little band. Lavay is one of my favorite singers. Highly recommended!! $30 Cover Charge

The Lucky Horseshoe Bar 453 Cortland Ave, San Francisco 4:00 PM-7:00 PM Showtime.. Bernal Hillbillies A great three hours of bluegrass music at a really great venue reminiscent of the jams at the Old Paul Saloon many years ago. N/C

Joey Alexander , the 14-year-old celebrated jazz piano prodigy and one of the youngest Grammy nominees in history, for his debut album “My Favorite Things” is performing two sets tonight. A great opportunity to catch this jazz genious. $44 Cover Charge

For better or worse, Goodnight Brooklyn:The Story of Death By Audio is about how much better things were in Williamsburg up until 2014. Death by Audio was a quasi-communal art, music and small-scale-manufacturing space that was forced to close after its building was taken over by the ostensibly renegade media company Vice.
