Mr.Tipples 39 Fell St, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime.. Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Mountain Winery 14831 Pierce Rd, Saratoga 7:30 PM Showtime.. Chris Isaac really puts on a great show. With his longtime band Silvertone, Chris has been playing great music for over two decades. This should be a great show. Tickets range from $65-$757.

Hemlock Tavern 1131 Polk St, San Francisco 8:00 PM-11:00 PM Showtime.. Jon and the Vons play a loud, fun 1960’s influenced brand of garage rock n roll. Their music is rowdy and rollicking and it’s going to make you get up on your feet and strut, spin, shimmy and shake your day away! Opening the show is San Francisco garage band The Outta Sorts. Should be fun.. $5 Cover Charge

Tuesday July 3rd

Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime.. Vibrason.. I saw this band recently. They are another great band out of the Bay Area. Very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. $10 Cover Charge

Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime Three good bands tonight with the indie pop punk rockers Chin Up Kid headlining with indie pop/dance rockers First in Flight and alternative progressive rock Septacy opening the show. $12 Cover Charge

Marin County Fair 10 Ave of the Flags, San Rafael 7:30 PM Showtime Los Lobos is one of the most acclaimed American bands of the past 30 years. I have always loved Los Lobos’ mixture of rock, blues, Tex-Mex, country, R&B, and Mexican folk sounds . I have seen them a lot over the years and they put on a great show. I highly recommend seeing them if you can.

Wednesday July 4th

Marin County Fair 10 Ave of the Flags, San Rafael 7:30 PM Showtime.. Singer, songwriter, multi Grammy winner, actress and author LeAnn Rimes in performance. Rimes rose to stardom at age 13 following the release of her version of the Bill Mack song “Blue”, becoming the youngest country music star since Tanya Tucker in 1972.

Rancho Nicasio 1 Old Rancheria Rd, Nicasio 4:00 PM Starting time.. The Zydeco Flames perform at the annual 4th of July BBQ On The Lawn Party. $20 Cover for food and entertainment. Highly recommended!!!

Thursday July 5th

People in Plazas is free noontime musical concert series in San Francisco public spaces. This is a great summer music series with over 120 free performances at lunchtime in a number of downtown public plazas Monday through Friday in July, August and September. Great venues to see great music Monday-Friday. Kicking off this year’s music festival noontime concert series are:

The Left Coast Special Cajun Band performing at Mint Plaza 1 Mint Plaza..

The funky New Orleans music of the 9th Ward Millionaires performing at 302 Second Street..

Some hot salsa sounds from Jose Y Sus Picantes are performing at my usual stomping grounds in the TransAmerica Redwood Park 600 Montgomery Street..

One of the best swing bands in the Bay area Josh Klipp and The Klipptones will be performing at 333 Market Street.

The Back Room 1984 Bonita Ave, Berkeley 8:00PM Showtime The Max Schwartz Quartet will be performing the Music of Monk and Mingus. Max is one of my favorite Bay Area jazz bassists are his supporting cast are outstanding with Nora Stanley on alto saxophone, Benny Bock on piano and Ben Ring on drums. This will be a great show.. Highly recommended!! $20 Cover Charge.

The Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime.. Tonight’s Hills to Hollers performance features three of the Bay Area’s great musicians and performers. Barbara Higbie is a master of piano and violin who combines technical brilliance with the pure joy of playing. Her unique compositions weave together elements of jazz, folk, and classical with the music of Ghana and Brazil. She’s joined tonight by a group of musical guests for an evening of melodic merry making.Laurie Lewis has only twice won the International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year, a Grammy for her contribution to True Life Blues: the Songs of Bill Monroe and has recorded more than 20 albums with the Good Ol’ Persons, Grant Street, Kathy Kallick, and her current band Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands as well as several solo projects. Before becoming a prominent figure in women’s music in the 1990s, San Francisco native Linda Tillery began her singing career in the 1960s with the gender-integrated psychedelic/soul band the Loading Zone, which was modeled somewhat after Sly and the Family Stone. After two albums with that band, Tillery released her solo debut, Sweet Linda Divine, on CBS in 1970 to enthusiastic reviews and high praise. She spent most of the ’70s singing and playing drums on over 40 albums, including efforts byMary Watkins and Teresa Trull. Having become a staff musician and producer at Olivia Records,Tillery released her second solo album, a self-titled effort, on the label in 1978, garnering a Bay Area Music Award for Best Independently Produced Album; Tillery has twice gone on to win Bay Area Jazz Awards for Outstanding Female Vocalist. The 28th Annual High Sierra Music Festival takes place this weekend in at 204 Fairground Road in Quincy, California. The festival kicks off today with some incredible music headlined by The String Cheese Incident and The Nth Power.. Ticket prices range from single day passes for $99.50 to $305.75 for 4 Day Passes. The four day lineup is outstanding!!!

Friday July 6th

Today’s noontime concert series lineup includes: The folk Mexican Tex-Mex Sabrosito whose repertoire includes the exciting rhythms of the Cumbia, Ranchera, Bolero, Cha-Cha and Huapango will be performing at 425 Market. NoCoasters is a very innovative Bay Area jazz group. I really like their arrangements of jazz, Latin, New Orleans, pop and even country standards and they way the band is able to reinvent them into their own unique sound. They will be playing at 555 Mission Street and are definitely worth checking out!!

Bird & Beckett 653 Chenery St, San Francisco 5:30 PM-8:00 PM Showtime.. Adam Shulman Quartet featuring Adam Shulman,on piano Lyle Link on saxophone John Wiitala on bass and James Gallagher on drums. Adam Shulman has been a staple of the San Francisco Jazz scene since he moved to the city in 2002. He has played as a sideman with such jazz greats as Mark Murphy, Larry Coryell and Bobby Hutcherson. The quartet is outstanding and if I was in town I would be at the show. Highly recommended!!! $10 Cover Charge..

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 10:00 PM Showtime.. Lavay Smith & Her 8 Piece Little Band .. Lavay is the reigning Queen Of Classic Jazz & Blues in the authentic style of the 1940’s and 1950’s. She will be performing with her 8 piece little band. Lavay is one of my favorite singers. Highly recommended!! N/C

Tupelo 1337 Grant Ave, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:00 AM Showtime.. Jinx Jones is one of the great guitar virtuosos of the Bay Area. I love the way he seems to move seamlessly from rockabilly to jazz to twang and back again, sometimes in the same song. Highly recommended.. N/C

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:30 PM & 10:00 PM Showtimes..Wee Willie Walker and The Anthony Paule Orchestra is an old school “Soul Revue” led by one of the great Memphis legendary soul singers. From what I have seen on youtube this a great soul band. Highly recommended!!! $24 Cover Charge.

Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime. What a great lineup!! Headlining tonight is the most original, twisted and fun alternative bluegrass bands anywhere The Pine Box Boys. I really love this band.. Opening the show are country outlaw rockers Husky Burnette, morbid comedy murder ballad rock with Lester T. Raww’s Graveside Quartet and a favorite balladeer of mine Gentleman Jimmy Hadley. If I was in town I would be at this show.. Highly recommended!!! $15 Cover Charge..

Yerba Buena Gardens 750 Howard St, San Francisco 1:00 PM-3:00 PM Showtime.. Two really great fun bands. Isle of Klezbos is a double-barreled blast of Eastern European soul presents a program of cross-fertilized Jewish and Romani party music. Hailing from the hurly-burly streets of New York, the all-women klezmer sextet Isle of Klezbos has spent two decades touring the world, delivering a reverently irreverent array of mystical Hebrew melodies, Yiddish swing, late Soviet-era Jewish drinking songs, and re-grooved standards. Fanfare Zambaleta emerged after intensive study from Zambaleta Music and Dance School. Drawing on brass band traditions from Romani, Serbian, Macedonian and Greek culture, the group delivers an intoxicating blend of horns and percussion. Fanfare Zambaleta unleashes some of the region’s finest players with a combustible mix of ensemble arrangements and soaring improvisation. Highly recommended!!! N/C

The Plough and Stars 116 Clement St, San Francisco 9:30 Showtime.. Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue is such a fun band led by “the punk Patsy Cline”, Vanessa Niemann, better known as “Gal Holiday”. Based in New Orleans the Honky Tonk Review is one of the preeminent honky tonk country and western swing bands around and is playing a central role in the alternative country, ‘roots’ music, Americana scene. Highly recommended!!! $20 Cover Charge..

Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime. Another great night of music featuring a great band Sven & The Masterful Majestic Orchestra playing a mix of big band, classic crooner, metal, swing and r&b . Opening the show are the dark swinging blues ensemble The Rebobs and a great jazz and ragtime band Hobo Paradise. Highly recommended!!! $25 Cover Charge.

Neck Of The Woods 406 Clement St, San Francisco 9:30 Showtime.. Fleetwood Macrame is quickly becoming the Bay Area’s most exciting tribute band. What began as a simple exercise in fun has turned into an awe inspiring live experience complete with show stopping renditions of Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits. Audience participation is encouraged, and bay area crowds are coming in droves to sing along with Fleetwood Macramé. What’s more, they sound so much like Fleetwood Mac, if you closed your eyes you would think it was the real thing. $15 Cover Charge..

Red Poppy Art House 2698 Folsom St, San Francisco 7:30 PM Showtime.. A great night of music with Sacramento’s Element Brass Band one of the premier bands on the West Coast for New Orleans second line comes the Red Poppy fresh off the release of its brand new album,Cali Got a Brass Band. Bay Area powerhouse Noelle Glory & The Guarantees open the evening with a set of soul, funk, and reggae grooves. Highly recommended!! $20 Cover Charge.

Elbo Room 311 Broadway, Oakland 9:30 Showtime. Dub Mission is one of the Bay area’s fun dance bands playing a mix of dub, roots, reggae, dancehall, remixes, bass. This band is a lot of fun.. Highly recommended!! $7 Cover Charge.

Ron Thompson is a legendary rhythm and blues guitarist and master keyboardist whose career began in the rough and tumble world of East San Francisco Bay nightclubs and bars in the early 1970’s. During many years of touring coast to coast with John Lee Hooker, Hooker was quoted as saying, “Ron Thompson, he’s my main man!” Highly recommended!! $20 Cover Charge..

The Independant 628 Divisadero St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime..Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters will be performing their brand of Americana country rock/rockabilly music. They sound good and I enjoy Billyu Bob’s political comments between tunes. $40 Cover Charge.

The Lucky Horseshoe Bar 453 Cortland Ave, San Francisco 4:00 PM-7:00 PM Showtime.. Bernal Hillbillies.. A great three hours of bluegrass music at a really great venue reminiscent of the jams at the Old Paul Saloon many years ago. N/C

Stern Grove Festival 19th Avenue & Sloat Blvd. 2:00 PM Showtime..The Mexican Institute Of Sound is the project name of DJ and producer Camilo Lara. A native of Mexico City, Lara recently worked as a music consultant for the Disney movie, “Coco.” Lara debuted the Mexican Institute of Sound’s first album, Méjico Máxico (Magic Mexico), in 2006 and went on to place songs in TV shows like Ugly Betty and Californication, and in FIFA video games. The performance will also feature special guest artists: Latin GRAMMY®-nominated accordionist Celso Piña, Vocalist Denise Gutierrez of Latin Grammy nominated indie-rock group Hello Seahorse and Pedro Erazo percussionist with Gogol Bordello.. Opening the afternoon is Ginkoa featuring the duo of Nicolle Rochelle and Antoine Chatenet whose music ranges from pop to the swing of old New York with a mix of electro French beats. Pianist Larry Vuckovich, acclaimed by critics and jazz audiences alike for his deeply imaginative style and repertoire, is equally at home with world music and classically influenced modal jazz as he is with hard-swinging bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz, and down-home blues. For this engagement, Larry features the legendary Big Black, with whom he shares a 50 year history dating back to their collaboration with legendary jazz vocalist Jon Hendricks at the Trident.
