Monday November 19th

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 9:30 PM-12:30 AM Showtime… Mike Olmos Presents The Sessions. Mike is a such a great trumpet player. He leads his all star Sessions for a great night of jazz.. N/C

Mr.Tipples 39 Fell St, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime.. Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Amnesia Bar 853 Valencia St, San Francisco 9:00 PM-11:30 PM Showtime.. Windy Hill Handsom Ladies.. The first ladies of Bay Area bluegrass music have a return engagement to Amnesia. This should be a good show..N/C

Tuesday November 20th
Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime. Vibrason.. I saw this band recently. They are another great band out of the Bay Area. Very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. Highly recommended.. $10 Cover Charge.

Le Colonial 20 Cosmo Pl, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime. Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime… Conspiracy Of Venus kicks off their 12th season singing contemporary and original a cappella arrangements. This powerful vocal ensemble of nearly 30 women, directed by composer, vocalist & pianist Joyce Todd McBride, interprets the words and music of greats like Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Bjork, and many more. Venus always puts on a lively show and never fails to surprise audiences with their unique takes familiar songs. Opening up the show is Irish-born violinist Colm O’Riain and some stellar musical friends mix the music of Ireland with rhythms and melodies from all over the musical world – Jazz, Blues, India, Cuba, Brazil, the Roma, and many more. Wednesday November 21st

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:30Local Edition PM & 9:30 PM Showtimes.. Bay City Blues featuring Chris Cain is a weekly showcase of world class Blues music and superb instrumental talent. This event is a celebration of the Blues in all its forms and an adventure into the depth of a national genre. Hosted by the nationally recognized Chris Cain & his All-Star cast of Musicians, every week they invite a new special guest to accompany them on stage and present new, upcoming, & old talent from the blues world! Bay City Blues is our tribute and exploration into the Blues genre, it is a special event in which we all get to help, share, & “Preserve the Blues.” Highly recommended!! $20 Cover Charge.

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 6:00 PM-9:00 PM Showtime.. Lulu & The Rent Party.. One of my favorite bay Area bands. They play an eclectic selection of jazz, latin, and pop tunes. They are really fun. Highly recommended!! N/C

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 9:30 PM-12:30 AM Showtime. The Patrick Wolff Bebop Quartet is deeply rooted in the bebop tradition established by Bird, Clifford Jordan and Dexter Gordon. Patrick is absolutely my favorite Bay Area tenor player and he leads an outstanding group of musicians..N/C.

Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers is internationally recognized as The Queen Of Classic Jazz & Blues in the authentic style of the 1940’s and 1950’s as the band pays tribute to the swingin’ Kansas City tradition, featuring the music of Count Basie, Jimmy Rushing, Joe Williams, Helen Humes, Lester Young, Jay McShann, Walter Brown, Jimmy Witherspoon, Myra Taylor & Big Joe Turner! Highly recommended!! No Cover Charge….

Cats Corner 2174 Market St, San Francisco 9:30 PM-Midnight. Si Perkoff’s Fantastic Swingtime Band plays fine vintage jazz, blues & swing with rhythms perfect for Balboa, Charleston, Shag…and Lindy of course! Singer Kally Price, whose voice conjures the vocal styling of Billie Holiday, joins the band for some extra sugar and spice! Highly recommemnded!!!! $10 Cover Charge.

Bottom of the Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime. A great heavy metal lineup tonight with the diverse hard rock/metal outfit Stalin headlining. Attik Door, which creates a unique rock/alternative feel and the power metal trio Sun Beast round out the night. Highly recommended!!!!! $10 Cover Charge..

The UC Theatre 2036 University Ave, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime.. Neal Casal along with Adam MacDougall, Dan Horne and Mark Levy perform together on 11/21 as Circles Around The Sun. The band first played as set break music at The Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well concerts! Opening the show is Mapache a new folk / blues / rock / bluegrass / psychadelic duo born in Los Angeles California. Highly recommended!!! $22.50 Cover Charge!!!

Thursday November 22nd

Atlas Cafe 3049 20th Street, San Francisco 8:00 Pm-10:00 PM Showtime.. The Gil Cohen Trio is a really wonderful jazz trio. When I first heard Gil playing he reminded me a lot of Roy Eldridge’s sound. It turns that Roy was one of his major influences. Gil and his trio is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommended!!! N/C..

Friday November 23rd

SF Jazz 201 Franklin St, San Francisco.. 7:30 PM Showtime. No one has done more to ignite interest in the idiom than legendary French guitarist and violinist Dorado Schmitt. Schmitt and his Django All-Stars is a cast of fiercely swinging compatriots including Dorado’s son, Amati Schmitt, who represents the future of the Gypsy tradition. Rounding out the ensemble includes Pierre Blanchard on violin, Ludovic Beier on accordion & accordina and Xavier Nikq on bass. I have been able to see Dorado a few times now and I highly recommend seeing this amzaing group. $30/$50/$70 Cover Charge..

The Fillmore 1805 Geary Blvd, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. One of the great and influential America rock bands Los Lobos will be teaming up and performing with one of the most influential punk band pioneering X The Band for a memorable night of great music.. Opening up the night is singer-songwriter and actress Jane Wiedlin who is best known as the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist of the new wave band The Go-Go’s. I am really looking forward to this show. Highly recommended!!!! $55 Cover Charge..

Yoshis 510 Embarcadero West, Oakland.. 8:00 PM & 10:00 PM Showtimes. Legendary R&B recording artists, The Spinners has never lost its universal appeal. Throughout the years they have sold millions of records and topped both the Pop and R&B charts with smash hits like “I’ll Be Around” and “Then Came You.” Today, original member Henry Fambrough is joined onstage by lead singer Charlton Washington, high tenor Marvin Taylor, tenor Ronnie Moss, and bass singer Jessie Peck; a soul-infused 5-piece band, led by Keith Ferguson, backs them up. Highly recommended!!! $39-$75 Cover Charge..

The Black Cat Jazz Club 400 Eddy St, San Francisco 6:30 PM-9:30 PM Showtime.. The Chase Jackson Trio & Friends is one of the West Coast’s best up and coming jazz ensembles. Chase’s tone and playing is reminiscent of the great Red Norvo especially when he is playing marimbas. I really like this group. Highly recommended!!!! $20 Cover Charge.

Westside Jazz Club, lead by the wonderful tenor saxophonist Scott Silverberg, is a collective of innovative jazz musicians performing jazz standards, challenging modern compositions and freshly-updated classics. I have seen this ensemble a number of time and they never dissapoint.. Highly recommended!!! N/C

Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime.. Bluegrass doesn’t get any better than Laurie Lewis And The Right Hands. She’s Berkeley’s own, she’s won the International Bluegrass Music Association award for Female Vocalist of the Year multiple times, not to mention a Grammy for her contribution to True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe.. Laurie sings and plays guitar and fiddle. Tom Rozum sings, swaps jokes, and plays mandolin, mandola, and guitar, Patrick Sauber plays banjo, Brandon Godman plays fiddle, and Sam Grisman plays bass. If you’ve never heard them before, you need to hear them as soon as you can. Highly recommended!!! $24 Cover Charge..
