The High Tide Trio is a sensational super instrumental band featuring Mitch Polzak on guitar and bass, Hank Maninger on guitar and bass, and Les James on drums. Les will not be playing guitar. Hank and Mitch will switch off on guitar and bass. Mitch and Hank will not be playing the drums. The band plays all sorts of interesting guitar instrumentals, including surf, country, jazz, bluegrass, and movie and TV show themes. Highly recommended!!!! N/C

The Fil Lorenz Orchestra is a high-voltage, crowd-pleasing big band born of the blues, with a sound defined by a searing, relentless horn section. Le Hot Jazz The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!!!!! N/C

Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime. Vibrason is another great band out of the Bay Area very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. Highly recommended $10 Cover Charge.

Brick & Mortar Music Hall 1710 Mission St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime.
Rocker Bones Owens is known for blurring genre lines and pushing boundaries and the Nashville-based singer/guitarist is doing just that with current single “White Lines“, which sees him getting back to the hard rock that he grew up on. Born and raised in rural Missouri, the former Yelawolf guitarist was raised on a mix of gospel, country, blues and rock and he brings all of those things to his own unique music mix. Singer/songwriter Lilan Kane is one of the Bay Areas very best soulful r&b/funk/pop & jazz vocalists. Lilan and her band has opened for Hall & Oates, Sharon Jones and Trombone Shorty. She is a great performer. Highly recommended!!! No Cover Charge..

The Patrick Wolff Bebop Quartet is deeply rooted in the bebop tradition established by Bird, Clifford Jordan and Dexter Gordon. Patrick is absolutely my favorite Bay Area tenor player and he leads an outstanding group of musicians..N/C.

Biscuits and Blues 401 Mason St, San Francisco 7:30 PM & 9:30 PM Showtimes.. Bay City Blues featuring Chris Cain is a weekly showcase of world class Blues music and superb instrumental talent. This event is a celebration of the Blues in all its forms and an adventure into the depth of a national genre. Hosted by the nationally recognized Chris Cain & his All-Star cast of Musicians, every week they invite a new special guest to accompany them on stage and present new, upcoming, & old talent from the blues world! San Francisco based jangle pop indie rockers The Umbrellas, another San Francisco based indie rock band Torrey and from Oakland tween pop punksters The Leave Me Alones round out the night.. People in Plazas is free noontime musical concert series in San Francisco public spaces. This is a great summer music series with over 120 free performances at lunchtime in a number of downtown public plazas Monday through Friday in July, August and September. Today’s noontime concert series lineup includes one of the Bay Area’s best vintage jazz ensembles The Cottontails performing at 555 California Street..

Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber is one the great American improvisational bands whose music combines influences of funk, jazz, rock, reggae, soul, hip hop, heavy metal, and 20th century classical music. Tonight The Arkestra performs Max Roach‘s We Insist Freedom Now Suite.. This is one of the great Bay Area music tour-de- forces. Highly recommended!!!!!! $35/$40 Cover Charge..

Brick & Mortar Music Hall 1710 Mission St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime. Electric Mud grinds it out with a sound influenced heavily by the old rock ‘n’ roll bands of the ’60s and ’70s. This band plays soulful soulful rock and roll, recreating and recapturing the feel of The Stones’ early stuff, Tom Petty, Otis Redding and Waylon Jennings. I love this band. Local Edition 691 Market St, San Francisco 8:00 PM-Midnight Showtime..
The Cottontails are one of the Bay Area’s best vintage jazz ensembles playing a wide range of styles ranging from 20’/30’s Gatsby-era jazz, classic 40’s swing, and vintage 50’s/60’s r&b featuring a truly great jazz vocalist Karina Denike fronting the group. Highly recommended!!!! No Cover Charge..

The Chapel 777 Valencia St, San Francisco 8:30 PM Showtime.. Shana Morrison‘s musical style mixes pop country, r&b and jazz with a side of blues and a side of rock. Her material is ever-changing, but what always remains the same is Shana’s unique and wide-ranging voice. She has shared billing with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, and Dr. John. Sweetwater Music Hall 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley 8:00 PM Showtime. Royal Jelly Jive is one of those bands that have the ability to evoke an old-school throwback vibe and yet sound entirely fresh and new at the same time. Fronted by the enigmatic singer Lauren Bjelde the band combines elements of soul, rock, swing and hip-hop. International legends The Turbans open the show. Highly recommended!!!!! $24 Cover Charge..

Green Music Center 1801 E Cotati Ave, Rohnert Park 7:30 PM Showtime.. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue performs with such virtuosity it draws the unqualified respect of some of the most iconic legends in jazz while also capable of mesmerizing international rock stars. From brass band blare and deep-groove funk, to bluesy beauty and hip-hop/pop swagger Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews delivers plenty of emotion all anchored, of course, by stellar playing and the idea that, even in the toughest of times, as Andrews says, “Music brings unity.” Opening the show is New Orleans legendary keyboardist Jon Cleary and his Monster Gentlemen.. Friday July 12th

Bottom of the Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 8:30 PM Showtime.. Another night of great music.. I like what I have heard from the feature band Oakland garage rockers Tramp Stamp. But for me I really like the other bands on the bill especially San Francisco based alternative rocker Scott Mickelson. Really check this guy out. His star is rising!! Baroque folk rocker Arthur Watership and another band from Oakland I really like psychedelic alternative rocker Jeremy Lyon round out the night. Highly recommended!!!!! $12 Cover Charge…

Saturday July 13th

Hotel Utah 500 4th St, San Francisco p:00 PM Showtime.. Igor and Red Elvises began in 1995 after dreaming that Elvis Presley came to Igor and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Red Elvises started as a Russian group, playing what they dubbed “Siberian Surf Rock”. Since then the band has included musicians from many other countries including United States, Israel, Puerto Rico and Bulgaria, to name just a few. Everyone who performs with them for any length of time brings something different both energetically and musically. At various times shows have included keyboards, accordions, sax, clarinet, trumpet, flute, banjo, mandolin, tuba and many other instruments. Old and new fans alike can expect to be surprised at shows again and again, however the roots of Red Elvises remain the same: Igor’s unique brand of humor combined with guitar based rock’n’roll that makes audiences want to sing, dance, scream and shout. The 82nd Annual Stern Grove Festival, the free summer outdoor Sunday music fest continues with Japanese-American singer-songwriter and musician
Mitski who is hailed as the new vanguard of indie rock. Mitski is paving the way for the next generation of female artists with her carefully crafted songs and emotionally raw lyricism. Opening the show is Oakland based indie musician Madeline Kenney.. The music starts at 2:00 PM and is located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Blvd in San Francisco.

Piedmont Piano Company 1728 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland 4:00 PM Showtime.. Drummer Akira Tana invites musicians from Osaka, Hammond B3 organist Atsuko Hashimoto, guitarist Yutaka Hashimoto, and tenor saxophonist Hideki Kawamura, to share the stage for an evening of swinging, unadulterated jazz organ music, in the spirit of jazz organ master Jimmy Smith. The group will celebrate the CD release of their October 2016 live performance in Kobe under the leadership of Mr. Kawamura. They will be joined by jazz vocalist virtuoso Nicolas Bearde. Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society 311 Mirada Rd, Half Moon Bay 4:30 PM Showtime. Joe Locke is widely considered to be one of the major voices of of Jazz vibes. Long known to be a soloist capable of stunning physical power and broad emotional range, it was not until the last decade that he emerged as the composer, bandleader and conceptualist that he is considered today. Joining Locke are Jim Ridl on piano. Lorin Cohen on bass and Samvel Sarkisyan on drums. $35/$45 Cover Charge..

Howell Devine is the massively talented NorCal trio featuring Joshua Howell (Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica)Pete Devine (Drums & Washboard) and Joe Kyle Jr. (Upright Bass). HowellDevine breaks from the norm, providing rich and complex textures integral to the music rather than simple backing for a soloist. The result is a sound which stands in stark contrast to the typical blues heard in bars these days and would more likely be shaking the floors of a Southern juke joint some 70 years ago. Leon Redbone: Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone is a documentary short that explores the life and music of the enigmatic musician Leon Redbone. Beginning with his “discovery” by Bob Dylan at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1972, the film hears from his longtime friends and associates about the mystery surrounding this musical cult figure. Set against Leon’s last filmed performances, it features interviews with John Prine, John Hammond, David Wilcox, Owen McBride and more.
