The High Tide Trio is a sensational super instrumental band featuring Mitch Polzak on guitar and bass, Hank Maninger on guitar and bass, and Les James on drums. Les will not be playing guitar. Hank and Mitch will switch off on guitar and bass. Mitch and Hank will not be playing the drums. The band plays all sorts of interesting guitar instrumentals, including surf, country, jazz, bluegrass, and movie and TV show themes. Highly recommended!!!! N/C

Mr.Tipples 39 Fell St, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime.. One of the Bay area’s best Django inspired ensembles The French American Quartet plays a mix of gypsy jazz as well as standards by Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael and Gershwin. The group is lead by a great guitarist Steve Froberg supported by Hanna Mingano on violin, Fabrice Urrizalqui on drums, François Egron on bass. Highly recommended!!!!! N/C

The Bow Ties are back at the Amnesia playing great traditional bluegrass. Highly recommended!!!! N/C

Stanford Bing Concert Hall 327 Lasuen St, Stanford 7:30 PM Showtime.. Bob Dylan is one of the most influential folk rock icons in American music and pop culture. He began as a folk singer and key figure in the 60s protest movement, composing songs that chronicled social and civil rights issues of the decade. In the decades that followed, Dylan experimented with electric sets and continued to be a musical and poetic songwriting power. With a career that spans nearly 60 years, Dylan has received numerous awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for Literature, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama, among others. The Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 6 pm-9 pm Showtime. A great show this evening featuring Saxophone legend Jules Broussard and arguably the Bay Areas best jazz vocalist Stella Heath. Ned Boynton on guitar and Michael Price on bass round out the ensemble. Highly recommended!!!!! No Cover Charge

Cosmo Alleycats is one of my favorite Bay Are jazz ensembles. The Alleycats are so good and so much fun and one of the better jazz bands in the Bay Area. Highly recommended. N/C

Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime.
Vibrason is another great band out of the Bay Area very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. Highly recommended $10 Cover Charge.

Jupiter 2181 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley 8:00 PM-11:00 PM Showtime.
Clyde The Blynd and His Trio will be performing his original compositions both old and new, plus songs from Don Cherry, Wayne Shorter and Augustus Pablo in this latest version of Clyde’s unique vision. N/C

Wednesday October 16th

Mr.Tipples 39 Fell St, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime..
The Midnight Moods are one of the Bay Areas best kept secrets. This is a wonderful classic jazz trio led the amazing Jacqueline Corona on vocals with Alex Farrell on bass and Julian Shipp on piano. Highly recommended!! N/C

Lulu & The Rent Party is one of my favorite bay Area bands. They play an eclectic selection of jazz, latin, and pop tunes. They are really fun. Highly recommended!! N/C

The Patrick Wolff Bebop Quartet is deeply rooted in the bebop tradition established by Bird, Clifford Jordan and Dexter Gordon. Patrick is absolutely my favorite Bay Area tenor player and he leads an outstanding group of musicians..N/C.

Local Edition 691 Market St, San Francisco 8:00 PM-11:45 PM Showtime.. Steve Lucky and the Rumba Bums perform vintage jazz, pounding boogie woogie rhythms, sultry ballads, and funky-swinging New Orleans R&B. This band simply gives you the beat to move your feet. This will be a fun show. N/C.

Ed Ivey’s Weekly Blues Jam gets the bar rocking. His weekly jam is really fun. N/C

Bottom of the Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime.. Another night of great music featuring direct from Liverpool bluegrass/country rockers Banners. Opening the show from Ontario, Canada muscle pop rockers Ellavator. I really like both bands.. Highly recommended!!!!! $15 Cover Charge…

Cafe du Nord 2174 Market St, San Francisco 7:30 PM Showtime.. The 2019 Noise Pop Festival presents Austin based hip-hop rapper Abhi The Nomad‘s The Modern Trash Tour which is his cry for the planet’s current condition of waste, decay and trash. Highly recommended!!!!!! $18 Cover Charge..

Tupelo 1337 Grant Ave, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:00 AM Showtime.. If you don’t know
Johnny Z and the Camaros you should. They are such a fun rock and roll band. They will have Tupelo rockin’ out. N/C

People in Plazas is free noontime musical concert series in San Francisco public spaces. This is a great summer music series with over 120 free performances at lunchtime in a number of downtown public plazas Monday through Friday in July, August and September. Today’s concert series times moves from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM. The lineup includes one of the great zydeco cajun bands in the Bay Area Andre Theirry performing at Salesforce Park located at 425 Mission Street..

Mystic Theatre 23 Petaluma Blvd N, Petaluma 8:30 PM Showtime.. The internationally celebrated multi-national Celtic band Gaelic Storm has been pushing the envelope of Celtic profound influential on the Celtic alternative rock and punk rock revival. Thursday October 17th

The Fillmore 1805 Geary Blvd, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. A great show tonight featuring the English-French avant-pop band and one of the first bands to be dubbed “post-rock” Stereolab. Regarded among the most innovative and influential groups of the 1990s, Stereolab is led by the songwriting team of Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier. Their music combining influences from krautrock, lounge, 1960s pop music, funk, jazz and Brazilian music. Junk Parlor which is a musical adventure down a path paved with eastern European, gypsy crooner punk, vintage bellydance melodies and our own brand of moody, haunting originals. Leonard Cohen-esk vocals and poetry, acoustic gypsy jazz guitar, ripping violin, cajon, percussion, fretless electric bass, all come together to paint a fantastically edgy dream scape. The Scott Foster Quartet has been performing regularly for the last several years and compiled a large repertoire. Joining Scott will be Dave Scott (Trumpet), Surya Prashanka (Drums), and Aaron Germain (Bass) led by Scott (Guitar). Scott is a great jazz guitarist and this band really cooks. Highly recommended!!! $10 Cover Charge

Headlining tonight the the Americana folk pop and progressive bluegrass band Front Country. I love their range of music playing everything from new-wave power pop, newgrass picking, to traditional bluegrass standards. Opening up the show is the Americana folk, part Nashville/bluegrass twang

Fox Theatre Oakland 1807 Telegraph Ave, Oakland 8:00 PM Showtime…. One of the most refreshing and innovative Americana alt country/bluegrass bands in many years and the purveyors of folk Hop n’ Roll Judah & The Lion will rock the house. I saw them at Outside Lands and loved them.. Opening the show is the Swedish-American indie pop Alternative rock, indie folk duo Flora Cash. Highly recommended!!!!! $35 Cover Charge..

The New Parish 1743 San Pablo Ave, Oakland 9:00 PM Showtime.. For over 20 years
The Hot 8 Brass Band has been one of the most popular and visible funk-style brass bands in community parades and funerals has been. The band can be larger than many younger groups often featuring ten members, including three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, bass drum, and snare drum. The Hot 8’s funk style is a blend of influences from the Dirty Dozen and Rebirth, with more elements of contemporary r&b, rap, and its local variation, “bounce.” The uniqueness of their sound is mainly due to a steady stream of creative original songs and ideas composed or introduced by various band members. The Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 7:00 PM Showtime.. Eclectic singer-songwriter John Gorka has be called by Rolling Stone Magazine as “the preeminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.” John mines folk, blues, bluegrass, and other acoustic music forms to create deceptively simple tunes.
