Monday October 8th

Club Deluxe 1511 Haight St, San Francisco 6:00 PM-9:00 PM Showtime… The High Tide Trio is a sensational super instrumental band featuring Mitch Polzak on guitar and bass, Hank Maninger on guitar and bass, and Les James on drums. Les will not be playing guitar. Hank and Mitch will switch off on guitar and bass. Mitch and Hank will not be playing the drums. The band plays all sorts of interesting guitar instrumentals, including surf, country, jazz, bluegrass, and movie and TV show themes. Highly recommended!!!! N/C

Mr.Tipples 39 Fell St, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime.. Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Amnesia Bar 853 Valencia St, San Francisco 9:00 PM-11:30 PM Showtime.. The Bow Ties are back at the Amnesia playing great traditional bluegrass. Highly recommended. N/C

Tuesday October 9th

Bar Fluxus 18 Harlan Pl, San Francisco 9:00 PM-1:30 AM Showtime. Vibrason.. I saw this band recently. They are another great band out of the Bay Area. Very reminiscent of some of the Cal Tjader bands. Highly recommended.. $10 Cover Charge.

Le Colonial 20 Cosmo Pl, San Francisco 7:00 PM-10:00 PM Showtime. Le Hot Jazz.. The spirit of Django is alive and well in San Francisco. This is a great ensemble. Highly recommended!! N/C

Bottom Of The Hill 233 17th St, San Francisco 8:30 PM Showtime.. Singer/songwriter Austin Lucas‘ music embraces elements of country, folk, rock and roll and punk creating his own unique gendre. I am a fan of hius music and it’s a treat that he is coming to the “Hill”. Highly recommended!!! $14 Cover Charge..

Great American Music Hall 859 O’Farrell St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. We Were Promised Jetpacks Scottish rock mainstays We Were Promised Jetpacks 

first emerged in 2009, with their exciting debut “These Four Walls”. The acclaimed post punk revival band are on their first huge headline tour in a number of years. This should be a great show.. Highly recommended!!! $25 Cover Charge..

Verdi Club 2424 Mariposa St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime… Laura Lackey’s Rhythm Revue is another great Bay Area band that plays hot dance floor tunes, swing and New Orleans jazz, blues, gospel and original compositions! They are excellent musicians and a lot of fun.. Highly recommended!!!! $10 Cvover Charge..

Ashkenaz 1317 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley 8:00 PM-11:00 PM Showtime.. Mitch Polzak is a master guitarist and he and The Royal Deuces has been one of the premier Rockabilly bands since staring in 1999. I am a huge fan. Highly recommended!! $15 Cover Charge..

Bird & Beckett Books and Records 653 Chenery St, San Francisco 7:30 PM-10:00 PM Showtime..Celebrate Theolonius Monk’s 100th Birthday with one of the Bay Area’s best jazz ensembles the Hugh Schick/Danny Brown Quintet.. This should be a great show. Highly recommended!!!! $20 Cover Charge..

Black Cat Jazz Club 400 Eddy Street, San Francisco 7:00 PM-Midnight Showtime..Cowboys & Frenchmen is a new take on instrumentation, composition, and orchestration for the jazz quintet. The front line of two alto saxophones is the vehicle for reimagining the role of horns in a small group setting, charting new territory by exploring individuality within the same timbre. The inspiration for the band name, Cowboys & Frenchmen, is a short film by David Lynch, called “The Cowboy and The Frenchmen.” The film is a Western – but with a unique, out-there interpretation of that classic genre. Similarly, this quintet’s music has one foot firmly planted in a genre, while the other one is busy trying to kick down the genre’s door. Highly recommended!!! $15 Cover Charge..

The Mezzanine 444 Jessie St, San Francisco 8:30 PM Showtime..France’s most popular and compelling new pop singer Jain has a reputation for her compelling performances with instances of audiences literally leaping from their seats in disbelief. Her debut album “Zanaka” is one of Europe’s most popular selling records. This should be a great show.. Highly recommended!!! $20 Cover Charge..

Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall 327 Lasuen St, Stanford 7:30 PM Showtime….I’m With Her is a three-woman folk trio featuring Sara Watkins violin, Sarah Jarosz banjo, mandolin, and guitar, and Aoife O’Donovan guitar. Since the band’s formation in 2014, they’ve garnered acclaim for their unique blend of instrumental interplay combined with melodies. They are a band of extraordinary chemistry, who together create bittersweet and beautiful songs about love, loss, and life’s ups and downs. Highly recommended!!! $40-$65 Cover Charge.

Hotel Utah 500 4th St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.Three really good local bands perform tonight including progressive rock/jazz Room For A Dream, funk/ jazz progressive rockers Fancy Dad and indie rockers Asleep Under Black Water round out a really good night of music.. Highy recommernded!!!! $10 Cover Charge..

The Independant 628 Divisadero St, San Francisco 8:00 PM Showtime.. Jupiter & Okwess transcend the Congo’s unexplored musical heritage and dive into a pool of modernity. Jean-Pierre Bokondji, aka « Jupiter », a sort of ghetto Don Quixote, (or a lanky wading bird dressed in a general’s uniform), was born on the 16th December 1963, in Kinshasa. From East Berlin (where he grew up) to Kinshasa, from James Brown to the ultra-dominant Congolese rumba style, Jupiter decided to create his own mode of musical expression. Bay area fusion funk band More Fatter opens the show. Highly recommended!!! $20 Cover Charge..

Sweetwater Music Hall 19 Corte Madera Ave, Mill Valley 6:30 PM Showtime….A special night with The Dynamic Faye Carol in Concert and the Film Screening of “Evolutionary Blues West Oakland Music Legacy Evolution” featuring such great artists as Faye Carol + Fantastic Negrito, Sugar Pie Desanto and many more. Faye is one of the premiere vocalists of her time and is internationally regarded for her powerful voice, unique style, and impeccable delivery of a wide range of material from The Great American Songbook to down home blues to contemporary popular music. She has shared the stage with artists such as Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Pharaoh Sanders, Charles Brown, Albert King, and Billy Higgins. This will be a great ewvening of entertainment.. August Hall 1706, 420 Mason St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime.. Monophonics are just hitting their stride as one of the premier soul bands in the country. The Bay Area band delivers cinematic songs with timeless hooks anchored by Kelly Finnigan’s soulful organ and powerhouse vocals. Their sound is inspired equally by classic soul, heavy funk, psychedelic rock, and classic American songwriting. The funky psychedeilc pop band Suzanimal rounds out a great night of music. Bottom Of The Hill 1233 17th St, San Francisco 9:00 PM Showtime.. A really fun show tonight. Headlining is the edgy blues, gospel soul band Zeal & Ardor. Dream trash band Astronoid rounds out the night.. Highly recommended!!!! $15 Cover Charge..

Surf punk rock pioneers Agent Orange is one of only a handful of bands who have been continually active since the earliest days of the West Coast Punk Scene. The Freight & Salvage 2020 Addison St, Berkeley 8:00 PM Showtime..Ferron is a Canadian-born singer-songwriter and poet. In addition to gaining fame as one of Canada’s most respected songwriters, Ferron first became one of the most influential lyrical songwriters of the women’s music circuit, and an important influence on later musicians including Ani Di Franco, Mary Gauthier and the Indigo Girls. From the mid-80’s on, her songwriting talents have been recognized and appreciated by music critics and broader audiences, with comparisons being made to the writing talents of Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen. Cornerstone Craft Beer & Live Music 2367 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley 8:30 PM Showtime..a great night of bluegrass and Americana music with two great bands. Headlining tonight is the Jeff Austin Band lead by the mandolinist and singer best known for being a part of the Yonder Mountain String Band. The Dead Winter Carpenters is a five-piece Alt-Country band from North Lake Tahoe, California, whose music has been described as an Americana blend of progressive bluegrass, roots rock, and folk with an influence from the Bakersfield. California Jazz Conservatory 2087 Addison St, Berkeley 4:30 PM Showtime.. The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra is San Francisco’s own 17 piece big band that plays music composed and arranged by its members, which include some of the very best of the Bay Area’s jazz musicians. The composers and arrangers draw from a wide variety of influences but always come up with powerful music with groove, beauty and subtlety. Highly recommended!!! $20 Cover Charge..
